Eighteen walkers met to walk from the top of Evans Pass to Godley Head on a cool sunny morning with a forecast of strong, southwesterly winds later in the day.
To add variety and make the most of the views on both sides of the headland, we switched between the Crater Rim Track and a mountain bike track at each col so our route resembled a figure of eight.
Sheltered by a convenient rock formation, we had morning tea just before the first col, enjoying the sunshine and excellent views over Taylors Mistake/ Boulder Bay. As the wind gusts increased, stone walls at the Godley Head picnic area provided suitable shelter for our lunch stop.
We completed the walk shortly after 2pm, only experiencing stronger winds for the last section of the track.
