Hinewai 2022

Leaders: Ann and Pauline
Report and photos: Ann

The weather for our walk was not as good as forecast two days beforehand so we couldn’t see any views when we arrived at the top of the Hinewai Reserve in the mist!  However around 10.15am nine walkers set off down through the bush and by the time we emerged into the open lower down the sun was shining.  A good job has been done repairing some of the tracks, building new bridges etc. since the rain event a year ago when there were huge landslides in the area.  We descended on the South track, West Track and Valley track.  Pauline had managed to get permission from the land owner at Otanerito for us to have access to the beach so it was lovely to have lunch there, alongside a seal or two!  We returned on the Kereru Track and by the time we were getting near the cars, around 3.30pm, the mist had closed in again.
